According to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., from January to May this year, China’s national railways transported a total of 1.67 billion tonnes of freight, up 1.8% year-on-year. The average daily number of loaded trains reached 186,300, an increase of 2.8% year-on-year. On May 2, the railway system handled 202,400 loaded trains in a single day, setting a new historical record.
Railway authorities have actively promoted rail-water multimodal transport through the China Multimodal Transport Development Alliance. From January to May, national railway rail-water intermodal transport reached 7.58 million TEUs, representing an 11.0% year-on-year increase. Meanwhile, railway services for automobile transportation have been further improved, with better integration of road and maritime transport. During the same period, China’s national railways transported 824,000 exported vehicles, an increase of 55.5% year-on-year, including 422,000 new energy vehicles, up 110.3%. These services have created an efficient "fast lane" for Chinese automobile manufacturers expanding into overseas markets.
In addition, railway authorities have accelerated the development of integrated logistics services and strengthened cooperation with enterprise supply chains. Since the beginning of the year, 1,185 logistics package contracts have been signed, with contracted freight volume reaching 1.15 billion tonnes. The China Railway Network Freight Logistics Platform has also been further promoted to provide door-to-door logistics solutions. From January to May, total integrated logistics volume based on railway trunk transportation reached 200 million tonnes, increasing by 102.2% year-on-year.
At the same time, railway authorities have optimized the organization of international train services, improved border handover efficiency, and ensured stable and smooth cross-border freight transportation. From January to May, China-Europe and China-Central Asia Railway Express services operated 15,506 trains, an increase of 12.6% year-on-year. Among them, the China-Europe Railway Express operated 9,331 trains, up 21% year-on-year, while China-Central Asia Railway Express services reached 6,175 trains, up 2.1% year-on-year.
