According to the latest statistics from Horgos Railway Station under China Railway Urumqi Group Co., Ltd., since the launch of China-Europe Railway Express operations in March 2016, the number of China-Europe freight trains departing from Horgos Railway Port to Europe has exceeded 19,000 as of March 2026.
Over the past decade, the types of goods transported by China-Europe Railway Express trains through Horgos Railway Port have undergone significant changes. In the early stages, shipments mainly consisted of daily consumer goods and textile products. Today, the cargo portfolio has expanded to include high-value-added products such as mechanical and electrical equipment, new energy vehicles, electronic products, and agricultural goods. This transformation reflects the upgrading of China's manufacturing sector and the optimization of trade structures between Asia and Europe.
In 2026, Horgos Railway Port continued to maintain strong growth momentum. Statistics show that by March 5, 2026, the port had handled 1,762 China-Europe and China-Central Asia freight trains, representing an increase of 8.6% year on year. In February, the annual throughput had already exceeded 1,000 trains, laying a solid foundation for further growth throughout the year.
To improve transportation efficiency, Horgos Railway Port has introduced an innovative "Smart Railway Port + Localized Fast Customs Clearance" model. By integrating resources from customs authorities, border inspection agencies, and railway operators, the port has achieved seamless coordination in train loading, inspection, and customs release procedures, improving vehicle turnover efficiency by more than 20%.
